Laser and plasma cutting

Depending on the auxiliary gas used, laser cutting can be divided into two
types of cutting: oxygen and nitrogen.

Nitrogen generators (PSA technology) for improving the efficiency of laser cutting machines

Nitrogen generators produce high purity nitrogen for laser cutting processes. We supply the equipment after careful study of the customer's requirements and support them throughout the process with trained maintenance personnel. Nitrogen is a known and approved support gas for laser cutting processes. Nitrogen helps reduce oxidation on metal surfaces, resulting in faster and cleaner cuts. This means increased efficiency of the laser machine, resulting in increased productivity. Laser manufacturers everywhere recommend the use of nitrogen with a purity level of 4.5 for clean and fast cutting.

Laser cutting with XITE nitrogen machines

Using N2 in the laser cutting process can help achieve precise, optimal cuts in metals, glass and other materials. Nitrogen keeps oxygen away from the cut, preventing metal oxidation that can lead to discoloration, burning and scorching. This makes for a clean cut and reduces post-cutting process problems. If post-cutting operations include coating or painting, N2-assisted laser-cut materials will be more suitable because they are not oxidized or burned.

In addition, materials cut with a nitrogen laser are more likely to pass bending tests after welding. For continuous production and consistent cut quality, a constant supply of continuous high purity N2 is required. this is where nitrogen generators play a key role.

Benefits of using XITE Nitrogen for laser cutting

Nitrogen is an inert gas that is non-flammable and will not react with the laser beam or the cutting surface. This makes it ideal for use with laser cutting machines as well as welding machines.

Some of the benefits of using a nitrogen generator in the laser cutting process.

Nitrogen is an inert, dry, non-flammable gas that is used to remove oxygen

Prevent oxidation, scaling or discoloration

Rapidly removes molten metal or dross from the cutting area

Protects laser optics, mirrors and lenses

Gives better paint adhesion to edges

Gives better bending strength to welded edges

Removes particulate matter from the beam path, reducing laser distortion

Reduces laser cutting costs and improves return on investment compared to renting nitrogen cylinders

Allows precise control of nitrogen purity levels

Reduces waste

Allows for a consistent supply of nitrogen

What is PSA technology?

Variable Pressure Adsorption (PSA) technology is a safe and reliable method of generating high purity nitrogen on site for a variety of applications in industries that require nitrogen.PSA systems are safe for the environment because they are a green system.

Nitrogen makes up 79% of the air we breathe, so there is an unlimited source right at our fingertips waiting to be tapped to save 80-90% of the current annual cost of nitrogen.

PSA technology driven nitrogen generators give users the ability to achieve extremely high purity of 99.9995% or 5 PPM. the PSA process is a physical process and no chemicals are used. The advantages are low annual consumable costs, minimal stress on the equipment and filter media, ensuring a long equipment life and minimal costs. A PSA nitrogen generator has the potential to operate effectively for many years. a PSA generator can provide any amount of continuous nitrogen product, depending on the requirements and design.

How does it work?

A PSA generator uses carbon molecular sieve (CMS) material in a vessel that is pressurized by the incoming air. O2, CO2, CO and other gas molecules from the supplied compressed air are captured or "adsorbed" in the CMS, while N2 molecules are introduced into a nitrogen receiving tank. By reducing the pressure in the sieve bed, O2, CO2, CO and other gas molecules are flushed from the CMS and the vessel is ready to introduce new air.

When two CMS vessels are used, one vessel is pressurized to air while the other remains depressurized. Once the first container is filled with air, the sieve bed is depressurized and the second CMS container is supplied with air. In this way, the second vessel is pressurized. This alternating fluctuation in vessel pressure allows a continuous flow of N2 gas into the receiver.

When all gases except N2 are adsorbed to the CMS, the air mixture is separated out. The nitrogen generators are manufactured to the highest quality standards, ensuring a long working life and low service requirements. The XITE system is robust, efficient, consistent in quality performance and energy efficient. In addition, the system and technology are completely environmentally friendly, as no chemicals are used in the PSA process. The by-products are water vapor and oxygen, which are released into the atmosphere.
